INDUSTRIAL DESIGN & INTEROPERABILITY

The IoT gateway router components is CE certified for industrial operating temperatures and conditions, 

The standard G3 comes in an extruded aluminium casing. A weather resistant enclosure is also available for outdoor and corrosive environments.

To aggregate from a host of different temperature, flow, level, acoustics or vibration sensors, the G3 is compatible for use with:

  • Modbus sensors

  • Modbus gateways (for Modbus RTU over TCP deployment)

  • Serial RS485/232 sensors

  • And low powered star/mesh sensors running ZigBee or BLE protocols.

 

NETWORK PERSISTENCE

Easily configure multiple redundancy features like dual SIM & network watchdog features like PPP & Ping Fail Reboot:

Connecting to a cloud stack or server is versatile & work can work a variety of ways using the FATBOX G3: 

  1. Via cellular LTE/3G to collect data from remote or mobile assets; 

  2. By using the existing ADSL/Fibre connection in factories and built up locations;

  3. Or a hybrid using the ADSL/Fibre connections with an automatic WAN-to-3G-failover function as an extra layer of redundancy in highly critical applications.

CLOUD MANAGEMENT

The FATBOX G3 gateway router uses an integrated MQTT client to send the aggregated sensor data parsed in time stamped JSON message format to a MQTT broker and subscriber for designated cloud applications to utilise.

Azure IoT Hub Client and Ubidots IoT client is integrated.

GATEWAY DATA PROCESSING

Developers can compile their own C-codes or write their own Python or LUA scripts to run on the FATBOX G3 gateway (2GB of internal flash storage is available as standard).

TEST SENDING SENSOR DATA TO CLOUD CONNECTION USING THE FATBOX G3

The FATBOX G3 Starter Kits are a simple way to demonstrate retrieving data from Modbus sensors and sending the data to Azure IoT Hub or Ubidots IOT platform.

In the starter kit, you will find the FATBOX G3 with Novus Analog & Digital Input Module and a temperature sensor. The comprehensive steps to design, wire up, configure and set up can be seen here in the Azure IoT Quickstart GuideUbidots IOT Quickstart Guide.

In this example, we have also connected other devices such as an ABB Power Meter and Schneider heating module. By configuring the Stream Analytics output in Azure IoT Hub with our designated subscription string (i.e g3powerBI) we are able to get a near real-time datasets from our industrial equipment data.

From there, Azure Stream Analytics can process the JSON message using Query to,

 

  • create visualised reports with Power BI for monitoring and management (see above)

  • save data to a SQL database, DB table, dataset or blob file

  • trigger a notification, e.g. send a SMS or email
